Operations Supervisor (Night Shift)

We're hiring an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead plant operations in a high-capacity, advanced wastewater treatment facility. This role is critical in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient 24/7 operations while mentoring and developing a strong operations team.

Schedule

Night shift | 10-hour shifts | Rotational weekends (majority off)

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Supervise and guide operations staff, including leads, technicians, and trainees
• Set performance expectations, provide coaching, and support ongoing training
• Manage staffing schedules to maintain uninterrupted plant operations
• Act as backup to senior leadership and step in during emergencies

Plant Operations

• Oversee daily plant performance, safety, and regulatory compliance
• Monitor systems (including SCADA) to optimize process efficiency
• Troubleshoot operational issues and recommend corrective actions
• Coordinate with maintenance and other teams during repairs or upgrades
• Maintain and improve standard operating procedures

Safety & Compliance

• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure proper PPE usage
• Report and address safety incidents promptly
• Ensure full compliance with environmental permits and reporting requirements
• Review operational logs and regulatory documentation for accuracy

Maintenance & Support

• Assist in prioritizing and reviewing maintenance work requests
• Interpret technical drawings and support team understanding
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on asset management initiatives

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in advanced wastewater treatment operations
• 3+ years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of treatment processes, process control, and compliance standards
• Familiarity with SCADA and plant monitoring systems
• Understanding of industrial safety standards (OSHA or equivalent)
• Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics
• Excellent communication and team leadership skills
• Relevant degree or equivalent hands-on experience
• Virginia Wastewater Works Operator Class 1 License required or ability to attain within one (1) year of hire date.
