The Director of Accounting serves as a strategic leader within the organization, guiding the overall accounting function and ensuring the highest standards of financial integrity and compliance. This role is responsible for shaping accounting policies, overseeing complex financial reporting, and providing critical insights that support executive decision‑making. The Director leads and mentors accounting teams, drives improvements in financial systems and processes, and plays a key role in long‑term planning, budgeting, and forecasting to strengthen the organization’s financial performance and operational excellence.
Financial Reporting
- Lead the preparation of accurate, timely financial statements in compliance with GAAP/IFRS.
- Oversee quarterly and annual reporting cycles and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Serve as the primary liaison with executives, external auditors, and key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with Chorus Corporate Accounting on complex accounting matters and transaction analysis.
- Enhance internal financial reporting, including segment and contract-level performance reporting.
- Conduct period-end financial analysis and present insights to senior leadership.
General Accounting
- Provide strategic leadership for all accounting and financial operations.
- Develop and implement financial policies, systems, and procedures aligned with business goals.
- Prepare regular and ad hoc financial reports, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives to enhance financial systems and processes.
- Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering accountability and operational excellence.
- Review key account reconciliations and IFRS adjustments to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Approve material journal entries and ensure timely completion of reconciliations.
- Support tax accounting matters in collaboration with Chorus.
- Oversee general accounting functions including AP, AR, banking, fixed assets, and taxation.
- Provide financial insights to support strategic planning and long‑term organizational growth.
Business Process Controls, Procedures & Compliance
- Lead the preparation and coordination for internal and external audits.
- Oversee the design and continuous improvement of accounting and reporting systems.
- Establish and maintain strong internal control frameworks.
- Evaluate financial systems and controls, recommending improvements to reduce risk and enhance efficiency.
- Promote a culture of compliance, risk management, and continuous improvement.
Treasury Management
- Provide strategic leadership in cash flow management, liquidity, and financial risk mitigation.
- Develop and maintain internal controls for treasury activities.
- Monitor daily cash positions and provide short‑ and long‑term cash flow recommendations.
- Manage banking relationships to support capital and cash management strategies.
- Conduct financial analysis and forecasting to support treasury decisions.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop treasury strategies aligned with corporate goals.
Additional Duties
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations for Six Sigma and operational excellence initiatives.
- Participate in contract negotiations, offering financial insights and modelling.
- Develop financial models to assess revenue and cost implications of key initiatives.
- Support communication of corporate policies and procedures.
- Lead and mentor staff, promoting continuous learning and development.
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational success.
Your Distinctive Ingredients for Success:
- University degree in Business, Accounting, or a related discipline (mandatory).
- Chartered Accountant (CA) designation or equivalent professional accounting designation (mandatory).
- Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting and financial leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience in financial reporting, general accounting, internal controls, and treasury functions.
- Experience leading teams and managing cross‑functional financial operations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and project planning abilities.
- Advanced computer proficiency and comfort with financial systems.
- Financial acumen with strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS.
- Strength in compliance and risk management.
- Critical thinking and innovative problem‑solving skills.
