Job Summary

The Software Engineer — SME Level (Sustainment Engineering Lead) will direct sustainment engineering activities across complex DoD enterprise systems. Responsibilities include managing software baselines, overseeing repair and replacement processes, planning end-of-life transitions, and implementing predictive maintenance strategies to ensure continuous mission support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead sustainment engineering and lifecycle management for enterprise systems
• Manage software baseline maintenance and configuration control (Deliverable 71)
• Oversee RMA processes and spares procurement activities
• Plan and execute end-of-life hardware and software replacement strategies
• Conduct failure trend analysis and implement predictive maintenance programs
• Track warranties and manage vendor support relationships
• Ensure sustainment activities align with DoD operational requirements
• Provide strategic guidance to engineering and logistics teams
• Maintain documentation, compliance, and readiness reporting
• Support continuous system availability and mission assurance

Required Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related discipline required, master’s degree preferred.
• Certifications required: ITIL 4 Foundation
• 12+ years of software engineering experience
• 7+ years leading software sustainment engineering efforts
• Experience with lifecycle management for DoD enterprise systems
• Experience managing RMA processes and baseline maintenance
• Software baseline management (Deliverable 71)
• RMA and spares procurement processes
• End-of-life hardware and software replacement planning
• Failure trend analysis and predictive maintenance
• Warranty tracking and vendor management

Preferred certifications:

• CompTIA Security+
• Advanced ITIL certifications
