What We Look For In a Grade 10 Math Tutor

• Advanced Subject Mastery: Deep knowledge of quadratic relations, analytic geometry of lines and line segments, trigonometry of right triangles, systems of linear equations, and quadratic functions including factoring, vertex form, and the quadratic formula. Ability to explain properties of parabolas, trigonometric ratios, and linear-quadratic systems while preparing students for grade eleven functions and advanced mathematics.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled at breaking down quadratic factoring techniques, trigonometric ratio applications, and system of equations solving methods. Guides students through graphing parabolas, solving application problems involving triangles and measurement, and determining equations of lines and circles. Emphasizes connecting algebraic manipulation to geometric visualization and applies concepts to architecture, navigation, and design.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiar with grade ten math curricula including Ontario MPM2D and MFM2P, and common challenges such as factoring trinomials, applying trigonometric ratios in context, and interpreting quadratic graphs. Adapts instruction using graphing calculators, interactive geometry software, and scaffolded problem sets to support students preparing for advanced functions and calculus pathways.
• Effective Teaching Methods: Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
