Job Description
Job Summary
Under direct supervision, collects blood samples by performing venipunctures or finger or heel sticks on patients. Checks the quality of blood and assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of the patient, following established standards and practices. Processes all samples within the department, either manually or using automation equipment, including send-outs. Responsible for outstanding customer service through verbal and written communication.
Primary Responsibilities

- Competently performs the duties of Phlebotomy Tech I.
- Responds to telephone inquiries for test results, specimen status, or other general inquiries. Communicates abnormal values to providers as necessary.
- Assists with orientation and training new team members and students as needed.
- Performs maintenance and troubleshoots. Assures all phlebotomy carts are stocked and checked for expired supplies.
- May load blood culture instruments and other lab instruments.
Work Experience
Qualifications
Education & Experience - Required
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Experience: 2 year of relevant experience
Education & Experience - Preferred
- Completion of an accredited program in Phlebotomy
- Certification as a registered Phlebotomist by a nationally recognized Phlebotomy Society, such as the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians
- Experience in a hospital or outpatient health care setting
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Phlebotomy

- Good data entry skills
- Basic decision making
- Understanding of proper patient identification
- Attention to detail
