Job Description
Under the direct supervision of anatomical pathology management, retrieves, accessions, and registers anatomic and cytologic specimens. Prepares fluid and tissue specimens for evaluation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Retrieves surgical and cytology specimens from designated locations.
2. Accessions cytopathology and/or surgical pathology specimens.
3. Complete specimen/patient registration of cytopathology and/or surgical pathology specimens.
4. checks accuracy of specimen labeling; identifiers and initiates steps to resolve discrepancies.
5. Complete formalin recycling process.
6. Completes preparation and staining for cytology specimens.
7. Answers phones and responds to customer inquiries and requests.
8. File slides and histology tissue blocks.
9. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Experience
Required Education, Credentials and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
Experience: One year of laboratory experience is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred. Effective verbal and communication skills required.
