Job Summary

We are seeking a Bookkeeper / Accountant with extensive hands-on experience to take ownership of our daily financial operations. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing cash flow through Accounts Receivable and Payable, and preparing timely Financial Statements for management review.

Will be responsible for managing the financial management and reporting functions of the organization. This includes overseeing accounting operations, budgeting, financial reporting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance within a not-for-profit environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Full-Cycle Bookkeeping

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure the General Ledger is accurate and up to date.
  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, and inter-company account reconciliations.
  • Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper coding of all transactions.
  • Handle government remittances and tax filings (HST/GST, source deductions, WSIB, EHT) ensuring strict compliance with deadlines.

2. Accounts Receivable (AR) & Accounts Payable (AP)

  • AR: Generate and send invoices to clients, monitor aging reports, follow up on overdue accounts, and process incoming payments.
  • AP: Verify vendor invoices, code expenses, schedule payments (cheques/EFTs) to maximize cash flow, and reconcile vendor statements.
  • Manage expense reports and petty cash.

3. Financial Reporting & Statements

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual Financial Statements (Balance Sheet, Profit & Loss, Cash Flow Statement).
  • Assist in year-end closing processes and prepare working papers for external accountants.
  • Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies or trends and report findings to management.
  • Assist with budget preparation and variance analysis.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 5+ years of proven experience in full-cycle bookkeeping and financial reporting.
  • Education: Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. A professional designation (CPA) or bookkeeping certification (CPB) is an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Expert proficiency in [Insert Software, e.g., QuickBooks Online, Sage 50, or Xero].
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs).

Core Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of accounting principles (ASPE/IFRS).
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills for dealing with vendors and clients.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $20.00-$24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
