Patent Drafting Specialist

Purpose

Drive high-quality patent drafting and AI-assisted IP innovation within the Drafting Department. Work closely with inventors, attorneys, and internal teams to produce well-structured, legally sound patent applications and specifications. Leverage AI tools and deep IP domain knowledge to enhance drafting workflows, improve output quality, and contribute to the evolution of TT Consultants’ drafting capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft high-quality patent applications including claims, detailed descriptions, abstracts, and drawings briefs across diverse technical domains.
• Analyze invention disclosures and technical inputs from inventors/clients to identify key patentable aspects and define claim scope.
• Prepare independent and dependent claims with appropriate breadth, ensuring legal soundness and alignment with jurisdiction-specific requirements.
• Conduct prior art searches to support claim drafting decisions and assess novelty and non-obviousness of inventions.
• Leverage AI-powered drafting tools to enhance speed, consistency, and quality of patent specifications.
• Review and refine drafted applications based on attorney/client feedback, ensuring accuracy and responsiveness.
• Ensure compliance with USPTO, EPO, WIPO, and other relevant patent office guidelines and formatting standards.
• Collaborate with Operations and Quality teams to maintain TAT adherence and first-time-right delivery.
• Contribute to building and refining prompt libraries, drafting templates, and QA frameworks for AI-assisted workflows.
• Stay updated with developments in AI tools, patent law, and drafting best practices to bring continuous improvement to the team.

Must-Have

• 1–3 years of hands-on experience in patent drafting within the IP industry.
• Strong understanding of patent claims structure – independent, dependent, method, system, and apparatus claims.
• Experience drafting patent applications across at least one technical domain (e.g., software, mechanical, electrical, biotech, telecom).
• Familiarity with patent filing requirements for USPTO, EPO, or PCT applications.
• Ability to read, interpret, and translate technical invention disclosures into well-structured patent specifications.
• Exposure to AI-assisted drafting tools or willingness to adopt and work with AI platforms.
• Strong technical writing, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.

Patent & IP Expertise

• Sound knowledge of patent claim drafting principles, including claim hierarchy, claim differentiation, and functional claiming.
• Understanding of patentability criteria – novelty, non-obviousness, utility, and written description requirements.
• Familiarity with prior art search strategies to support drafting (patent & NPL literature).
• Knowledge of patent prosecution basics, office action responses, and claim amendments.
• Understanding of patent families, continuation/divisional strategies, and PCT filing procedures.
• Working knowledge of global patent databases: USPTO, EPO, WIPO, Espacenet, Google Patents.
• Awareness of IP portfolio strategy and how quality drafting supports long-term patent value.

Education Background

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in ECE, Mechanical, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields.
• Strong grounding in engineering fundamentals relevant to patent domains.
• Exposure to AI/ML applications in engineering domains preferred.
• Understanding of IP law basics, patent lifecycle, and drafting methodologies.
