This position reports to the Utility Plant Coordinator.
This position performs daily operational and maintenance functions at the water and wastewater plants, lift stations, pump houses, reservoirs, raw water intakes, and overall system maintenance.
The position will work 40 hours per week. Must be prepared to work overtime as required
Key duties will include:
- Responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, as required by Alberta Environment Regulations and directed by the Manager of Utilities or the Utility Plant Coordinator.
- Responsible for daily operations, upkeep and maintenance of the water pump houses, reservoirs, and wastewater lift stations.
- Assists in maintaining complete records and daily test results for all water and wastewater facilities as per Alberta Environment License approvals.
- In conjunction with the Utility Plant Coordinator, develop, revise, and maintain the most efficient maintenance schedules in all areas of the water and wastewater plants, pump houses, and reservoirs.
- Assists in reading of water meters, water distribution, wastewater collection and maintenance and repair, as required.
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Must possess and maintain valid Alberta Environment Protection Certification (Level I minimum) in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection, and Wastewater Treatment.
- Requires one-year experience in Water Treatment and Wastewater Treatment Plants, Lab Operations and requires effective record keeping.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Physical Demands and Work Conditions for this position include:
- Frequent lifting and carrying of materials, tools, hoses, test equipment, and parts up to 50 lbs.
- Repetitive physical movements, including turning valves, operating pumps and mechanical controls, shifting levers, and using hand and power tools.
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, trunk rotation, forward bending, kneeling, crouching, pushing, and pulling during routine operational and maintenance tasks.
- Climbing ladders, stairways, tank structures, equipment platforms, and accessing confined or elevated work areas as part of plant inspections and repairs
