Role Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Sport & Business Event Marketing, this role is embedded within Tourism Calgary’s Marketing and Meetings & Conventions teams. The Specialist, Business Event Marketing will act as a liaison between the sales and marketing teams to support in attracting and securing meetings and convention business for Calgary, driving destination visitation.

With the recent launch of the BMO Centre expansion, Calgary is now the largest convention destination in Western Canada and is positioned to dramatically grow our visitor economy by attracting major business events. Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the Manager, Sport & Business Event Marketing, the broader marketing and business development teams, and industry and agency partners to execute, measure and report on annual marketing plans aimed at attracting and securing business events for the city.
  • Support with development of brand-aligned collateral, assets and content, including both hands-on support and working with suppliers and content creators on copywriting, bid and promotional videos, photography, advertising creative, and sales and marketing materials.
  • Support Manager, Sport & Business Event Marketing on executing and measuring success of key sales show activations; including assisting with show bookings and set-up, booth design and management, and tracking of booth KPIs.
  • Manage Tourism Calgary Meetings & Conventions social media channels, including collaborating with teams on annual content calendars, content creation, scheduling, community management, and tracking KPIs.
  • Support Manager, Sport & Business Event Marketing with paid media campaigns, including annual planning, development and management of deliverables, and reporting for both digital and industry-specific channels.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in marketing with experience in a B2B marketing role that demonstrates ability to drive leads through an integrated approach.
  • Detail orientated and highly organized with the ability to manage projects from inception to completion, prioritize, and meet and maintain deadlines with proven success record.
  • Experience with tradeshow and/or event marketing.
  • Strong relationship management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Adaptive and resourceful with a hunger to learn, flourish and work in a fast paced, challenging and ever-changing environment.
  • Excellent creative, strategic, and problem-solving aptitude with the ability to work well independently or as a member of a team or group.
  • Knowledge of the MC&IT and/or tourism industry considered an asset.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite considered an asset.
  • Must be computer literate, strong knowledge of database management, social media platforms and Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions

  • This is a hybrid home-office role requiring on-site presence at the Tourism Calgary downtown office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
  • Mondays and Fridays are optional work-from-home days, though in-office attendance may be required to support business and meeting needs.
  • This role requires occasional evening, overnight or weekend work, including the requirement to be present on-site as dictated by business needs.
  • Laptop and cellphone will be provided by Tourism Calgary.
