About the Role
We’re seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Assistant to join a dynamic Finance team in Alexandria, Virginia. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys both the operational and reporting sides of accounting and wants to be a key contributor to a well-organized, collaborative department.
As an Accounting Assistant, you’ll support day-to-day financial activities including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and general ledger tasks—while also assisting with reporting and reconciliations. Your work will help ensure accuracy, compliance, and smooth financial operations across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Provide administrative and clerical support for accounting operations and financial reporting
- Process invoices, corporate card expenses, and petty cash with proper documentation
- Manage vendor records and maintain accurate filing systems (digital and physical)
- Handle AP/AR transactions and assist with daily journal entries
- Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Research stale-dated checks and assist with regulatory reporting (e.g., escheatment, withholding)
- Monitor daily wire activity and support data/report uploads
- Prepare routine accounting and financial reports
- Maintain office tools such as postage equipment
- Collaborate closely with team members to ensure timely and accurate workflows
- Cross-train across functions to provide backup support when needed
- Participate in ongoing training and development

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (some college coursework preferred)
- At least 2 years of experience in accounting support within a financial institution or similar environment
- Familiarity with general ledger and AP systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
