Position Summary
We are launching a newly renovated hotel under a global hospitality brand and are seeking an entrepreneurial, hands-on General Manager to lead the property from pre-opening through a successful grand opening and ongoing operations.
This role requires a proven leader with experience opening or repositioning hotels, working directly with brand partners and building high-performing teams.
You will be instrumental in establishing operational excellence, brand alignment, and a strong market presence from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Opening, Renovation & Brand Alignment
- Lead all phases of the hotel opening, including operational setup, staffing, and training
- Oversee implementation of the grand opening plan, ensuring a successful market launch
- Work directly with brand representatives and project teams to align the renovated property with brand standards
- Act as the primary liaison between ownership, the brand, and the property
- Ensure compliance with brand requirements including sales strategy, web presence, and brand standards
- Establish and adhere to financial and service standards for the organization
- Implement organizational and departmental policies, programs, and administrative controls
Operations & Guest Experience
- Oversee all hotel operations including front office, housekeeping, maintenance, restaurant, and events
- Ensure service standards of excellence are consistently delivered in all guest areas
- Address guest concerns, feedback, and complaints in a timely and professional manner
- Conduct regular property inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety, and optimal working conditions
- Introduce and refine policies and procedures as needed
- Step into operational roles as needed to support service, resolve issues and ensure a smooth execution of all departments
- Perform other duties as required to support overall business success
Leadership & Team Development
- Be instrumental in the hiring process, building a strong team from the ground up
- Recruit, train, and oversee staff across all departments, with support from Human Resources
- Provide vision, leadership, and direction to department heads and team members
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performance work environment
- Manage employee relations and coach leaders on motivating and supporting staff
Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting
- Monitor expenses and implement strategies to maximize revenue and control costs
- Focus on rate strategies and sales performance to optimize revenue opportunities
- Prepare and circulate operational and financial reports as required
Sales, Marketing & External Relations
- Oversee and support sales, marketing, promotions, and advertising initiatives
- Build relationships with local businesses and community partners
- Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to secure cost-effective services
Compliance, Safety & Facilities
- Ensure compliance with all licensing laws, health & safety regulations, and statutory requirements
- Liaise with external stakeholders including Police, Fire and Public Health
- Oversee health and safety programs, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Lead emergency preparedness including evacuation planning, fire safety procedures, and training
- Ensure preventive maintenance programs and inventory management are effectively executed
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in opening a new or newly renovated hotel property under a global brand.
- Direct experience collaborating with established brand partners (e.g., Hilton, Marriott, or similar).
- Prior experience in an Operations Manager, General Manager, or senior leadership role within the hospitality sector.
- Strong background in both hotel and food & beverage operations, including restaurant and event management.
- Diploma or degree in Business, Hospitality Management, or equivalent practical experience.
- A hands-on leadership style with a genuine willingness to support all operational areas.
- Strong financial acumen and proven operational management skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and an unwavering commitment to guest satisfaction.
- Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and motivate high-performing teams.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Experience with hotel and restaurant systems (e.g., Toast, 7Shifts, Opera Cloud) is preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, capable of prioritizing effectively.
- Ability to thrive and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, start-up style environment.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call as required.
