Staff Software Engineer, Retail Integrations

Retail is born out of the New Ventures business unit, with the goal of researching, developing, and eventually scaling a new generation of products and  business lines that can have a substantial impact on Toast’s long-term growth. In this unique role, you will be joining us as an engineer helping scale out the product from beta to a scale on par with the restaurant business Toast is already operating at. If you are the type of engineer who loves building from scratch, and thinking about the big picture, this could be the perfect job for you.

On the Retail Integrations team, we are expanding Toast’s platform, building a connected ecosystem of Retail-focused integrations, particularly in the area of managing and exposing store inventory. We’re challenging Toast’s long-standing restaurant-focused data models and expanding them to fit Retail establishments’ needs. We’re scrappy and motivated to capture this opportunity, and are looking for individuals who are excited for a new challenge.

About this roll* (Responsibilities)

• Work closely with the leads to identify high-impact opportunities in the domain
• Plan, scope, and prototype solutions from design to rollout, using a combination of web and server-side technologies
• Make technical decisions and recommendations that will lay the foundation for the future of our integrations strategy
• Stay in tune with customer needs by participating in partner evaluation calls and industry research

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

• Growth mindset with an emphasis on learning and self/team-improvement
• 7+ years experience building and shipping production software to customers
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, or other object oriented programming languages
• Experience with building integrations
• Respectful, empathetic, and humble
• Passionate about making users happy and seeing people use your product in the wild.
• Startup mindset and comfort with ambiguity
• Flexible in using different tech stacks and languages
• Comfortable with testing methodologies and frameworks
