Job Description
As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll do meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale—helping our customers make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. Our teams tackle complex scientific and technical challenges, and we rely on thoughtful, modern design to make these systems usable, trustworthy, and effective.
This role is for a designer who is excited about building with AI, not just designing for it—and who is motivated by simplifying complex, system-driven problems through thoughtful interaction design.
You’ll work on agentic features and AI-driven workflows across our products, using Figma Make and AI-powered prototyping tools to rapidly explore, test, and refine how intelligent systems behave. This is a hands-on role with real influence over product direction—not a wireframe-only or handoff-focused position.
If you’re comfortable thinking in terms of states, logic, behaviors, and systems—and you enjoy collaborating closely with engineers—this role will stretch you in the right ways.
What You’ll Do
- Design and prototype AI-driven and agentic product experiences, including workflows where the system reasons, recommends, and acts.
- Use Figma Make to create interactive prototypes that go beyond screens—modeling behavior, transitions, and edge cases.
- Partner closely with product managers and engineers to shape features from early concept through implementation.
- Define interaction patterns for complex systems, balancing automation, transparency, and user control.
- Test and iterate on designs using real feedback, especially for novel or ambiguous AI behaviors.
- Help establish internal best practices for designing AI-powered experiences.
What We’re Looking For
- Typically 5+ years of experience designing digital products, platforms, or workflows—or equivalent experience building and prototyping complex software systems.
- Strong experience with Figma, including advanced prototyping and comfort with AI-assisted design workflows.
- Experience designing complex or system-driven products (platforms, workflows, developer tools, automation, or AI-adjacent products).
- Ability to think in terms of flows, logic, and states, not just static UI.
- Comfort working closely with engineers and understanding technical constraints.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to explain design decisions with reasoning—not just visuals.
- Genuine curiosity about AI, agentic systems, and emerging design tools.
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and inclusive design principles, with an understanding of how they apply to dynamic and AI-driven interfaces.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
- We value strong portfolios, system-level thinking, and hands-on experience with modern design and AI tools over formal credentials alone.
This Role Is Not a Fit If You:
- Prefer only designing static screens or focusing purely on visual polish
- Expect fully defined requirements before starting design
- Prioritize designing for developers over users
- Are uncomfortable experimenting, iterating quickly, or working in ambiguity
- Have little interest in AI or modern, AI-powered design workflows
