Description
The Senior Graphic & UI/UX Designer will play a pivotal role in conceptualizing, designing, and implementing graphic design systems to immersive and interactive experiences that address critical social and development challenges in areas such as infrastructure, environment, gender equality, health access and digital connectivity. The designer will be creating assets for immersive technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), WebXR, 360° films, and interactive installations, to create compelling and impactful content that resonates with diverse audiences, particularly in developing country contexts. The role supports projects across the Global Corporate Solutions (GCS) Interactive Media teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Visual Asset Production:
- Design high-quality art direction decks, visual assets, graphics, and UI components for use across web, mobile, print, and immersive platforms.
- Create visual elements and asset packages that can be integrated into VR, AR, WebXR, and interactive installations by technical teams.
- Produce illustrations, layouts, interface components, icons, and visual systems that support interactive storytelling and development content.
- Collaborate on data visualization projects to translate complex datasets into clear and compelling visual graphics suitable for digital and spatial experiences.
- Content Creation:
- Lead the creation of storyboards, wireframes, and prototypes to align stakeholders in a creative direction.
- Design graphics systems with spatial and immersive narratives in mind that enhance user engagement and understanding of project objectives.
- Incorporate user feedback to refine and optimize immersive experiences.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including project managers, researchers, developers, and subject matter experts.
- Partner with internal groups, external vendors and production teams to deliver high-quality content.
- Act as a bridge between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to ensure the usability and accessibility of immersive solutions.
- Innovation and Research:
- Stay updated on the latest trends in immersive technologies and incorporate best practices into project design.
- Explore new tools and methodologies to enhance interactive storytelling and data and maps visualization in XR spaces.
- Advocate for sustainable, accessible, inclusive, and equitable design principles in all project deliverables.
- Key Deliverables
- Immersive design elements for experiences tailored to specific development projects (e.g., climate visualization in VR, AR-based health training tools).
- Comprehensive design documentation, including user journeys, prototypes, and wireframes.
- Polished 2D, 3D assets and animations optimized for multiplatform experiences.
- Decks, reports or presentations summarizing design choices, user feedback, and project outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Interaction Design, Digital Media, 3D Design, XR Design, or related fields.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in graphic design, digital design, or interactive media production.
- Strong experience designing visual assets and content for web, mobile, print, and digital platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to design and produce assets that can translate into 3D and spatial environments (XR, immersive installations, or interactive media).
- Experience collaborating with developers and technical teams to translate visual concepts into interactive experiences.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating high-quality design work across multiple media.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced proficiency in Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and other professional design tools.
- Ability to design visual systems, UI assets, and visual storytelling for digital and interactive platforms.
- Experience preparing and optimizing assets for web, mobile, print, and immersive platforms (WebXR, Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.).
- Familiarity with AI-assisted design and content generation tools used in modern design workflows.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong visual storytelling and communication abilities.
- Ability to translate complex development topics into clear and compelling visual experiences.
- Strong collaboration skills in multidisciplinary teams including developers, researchers, and subject matter experts.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, multicultural, and multidisciplinary environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on projects related to international development topics (i.e: climate, gender equality, health access, infrastructure, etc) in developing countries.
- Knowledge of human-centered design (HCD) principles.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software such as Blender, Cinema4D, or similar.
- Experience with immersive UX/UI rapid prototyping tools such as ShapesXR or similar.
- Experience designing interactive data visualizations for web and XR.
- Understanding of accessibility and inclusivity standards in XR design.
- Basic knowledge of programming (e.g., C#, JavaScript) for XR applications and how it affects design.
Work Conditions
- Work primarily in remote and virtual collaboration settings, with the ability to work mostly within the Eastern Standard Time (EST) time zone to coordinate with team members and stakeholders.
- Flexible working hours to accommodate project deadlines across multiple time zones.
