Job Description
Job Title: Business Systems Analyst (BSA) / Scrum MasterDomain: Enterprise Platform Modernization (Legacy to Cloud/Microservices)Location: Pittsburgh, PA/Dallas, TXType: Full-TimeRole OverviewWe are seeking a versatile BSA/Scrum Master to join our Platform Modernization team. You will play a dual role: as a BSA, you will dissect complex legacy system logic and translate it into modern, scalable requirements; as a Scrum Master, you will facilitate Agile ceremonies and remove technical blockers for a high-performing engineering team. The ideal candidate understands that "modernization" isn't just a tech upgrade—it's a shift in mindset, architecture, and delivery speed.
Key Responsibilities1. Systems Analysis & Requirements (BSA)
- Legacy Decomposition: Analyze existing monolithic systems, databases, and business logic to document "as-is" states
- Modernization Mapping: Map legacy functions to "to-be" cloud-native architectures (Microservices, APIs, Event-driven designs)
- User Story Engineering: Write high-quality User Stories with clear Acceptance Criteria (AC) that account for technical debt and platform scalability
- Data Migration Logic: Collaborate with data engineers to define mapping rules and validation logic for moving data from legacy schemas to modern structures
2. Agile Delivery & Coaching (Scrum Master)
- Ceremony Facilitation: Lead Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Reviews, and Retrospectives with a focus on continuous improvement
- Impediment Removal: Proactively identify and clear "modernization-specific" blockers (e.g., environment access, API dependencies, security compliance hurdles)
- Backlog Health: Partner with Product Owners to prioritize technical debt alongside new feature development
- Metric Tracking: Use JIRA/Azure DevOps to track Velocity, Burndown, and Cycle Time to predict delivery timelines accurately
Technical Skills & Qualifications
- Modernization Expertise: Experience with projects involving Cloud Migration (AWS/Azure/GCP), API First strategies, or Monolith-to-Microservices transitions
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read SQL queries, understand API contracts (Swagger/OpenAPI), and discuss architectural diagrams with developers
- Documentation: Proficiency in Confluence, Lucidchart, or Visio for process mapping and system flowcharts
- Agile Tools: Expert-level knowledge of JIRA or Azure DevOps (ADO)
Preferred Experience
- Years of Experience: 5+ years in a BSA or Scrum Master role within a technical environment
- Certifications: CSM (Certified Scrum Master), PSM, or CSPO. Cloud certifications (AWS Cloud Practitioner) are a huge plus
- Industry Context: Experience in highly regulated industries (Finance, Healthcare, Insurance) where modernization involves complex compliance requirements
Soft Skills
- The "Translator" Ability: Can explain a technical database constraint to a business stakeholder and a business rule to a developer with equal clarity
- Adaptability: Comfortable with the ambiguity that often comes with discovering "hidden" logic in legacy systems
- Servant Leadership: A focus on empowering the team rather than just managing a task list
