Job Description
Independent Recruitment Partner / Business Development Recruiter The Staffing Exchange is looking for experienced, entrepreneurial recruitment professionals who want more control, more upside, and more ownership over the business they build.
This is not a traditional corporate recruiting role. This is not an internal HR role. This is not a salaried talent acquisition seat where requisitions are handed to you.
This opportunity is for people who know how to develop client relationships, open doors, build trust with hiring managers, and create recruitment revenue through strong business development and disciplined execution.
At The Staffing Exchange, our recruiters operate with the mindset of business owners. You will be supported by an established recruitment platform, shared resources, industry credibility, and a collaborative team environment — but your success will come from your ability to build relationships, generate opportunities, and manage the full recruitment cycle from client development through placement.
We are especially interested in recruiters, account managers, search consultants, staffing professionals, and industry specialists who have the confidence to build a desk and the discipline to follow through.
The Opportunity
As an Independent Recruitment Partner, you will focus primarily on building and managing client relationships. Recruitment delivery is part of the role, but the real foundation of success here is business development.
You will identify companies with hiring needs, build relationships with decision-makers, understand their business challenges, and provide recruitment solutions that help them secure strong talent.
This is a fit for someone who enjoys the commercial side of recruitment: prospecting, networking, client calls, intake meetings, negotiating terms, managing expectations, and turning relationships into long-term revenue.
You will have the freedom to build in the market you know best, whether that is manufacturing, engineering, skilled trades, operations, supply chain, construction, finance, accounting, industrial services, or another professional niche.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will be responsible for developing new client relationships, maintaining existing accounts, and creating recruitment opportunities through consistent business development activity.
You will conduct client meetings, understand hiring requirements, qualify opportunities, and manage the recruitment process from intake to placement.
You will source, screen, and present qualified candidates, but this role is not designed for someone who only wants to recruit on assigned jobs. You must be comfortable creating your own opportunities and building your own book of business.
You will manage candidate relationships professionally, prepare candidates for interviews, support offer negotiations, and ensure both the client and candidate are aligned throughout the process.
You will operate with independence, accountability, and urgency while leveraging the support, tools, and resources available through The Staffing Exchange.
Who This Is For
This opportunity is for someone who has already proven they can build relationships, sell services, influence decision-makers, and operate with limited hand-holding.
You may be a strong fit if you are:
- An experienced agency recruiter who wants more independence and income potential.
- A staffing account manager who understands client development and wants to own the full process.
- A recruitment consultant or headhunter with a strong niche market.
- A business development professional from staffing, recruitment, industrial services, manufacturing, or professional services who understands how to sell to employers.
- A self-directed professional who wants to build something of their own while being connected to an established recruitment platform.
- Someone who understands that recruitment is a business, not just a job.
- Someone who is comfortable developing clients first, then delivering recruitment solutions around those relationships.
Who This Is Not For
This is not the right opportunity for someone looking for a traditional salaried HR role.
It is not the right fit for corporate HR professionals who are used to internal requisitions, internal hiring processes, and candidates applying directly to company job postings.
It is not ideal for someone who is currently unemployed and applying broadly to see what sticks.
It is not for someone who only wants to source resumes, screen applicants, or work on job orders provided by someone else.
It is not for someone who needs daily supervision, a guaranteed book of business, or a highly structured corporate environment.
