Canada Summer Jobs Program
This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, part of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment and Skills Strategy. The program supports youth aged 15 to 30 by providing paid summer work experience and opportunities to develop skills for the job market. To be eligible for this position, applicants must:
- Be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
- Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
Important Note: International students and other temporary residents of Canada are not eligible to apply for positions funding through the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Opportunity
Position: Veterinary Attendants provide care for animals. This will include supporting the compassionate pre and post-op requirements of each animal. They ensure a healthy environment for all our residents via routine grooming, housekeeping and disinfection accountabilities such as kennel cleaning and laundry. Although essential animal care and associated activities are the primary focus for this role, customer service and related client administrative duties are paramount to the clinic and therefore to the success of this position.
A Typical Day:
- Greeting clients and answering general inquiries regarding pre and post-op care
- Providing pre and post op care to the animals in our trust, under the direction of the RVT’s and Veterinarians
- Handling and soothing animals during examinations, treatments, and vaccinations
- Recording relevant information about animals, including weight and types of medication given
- General housekeeping and/or disinfection of the clinic including sterilization of hospital/medical equipment, cleaning floors and counter tops, crates etc.
- Conduct animal transfers where appropriate
