About the School:
The Lab School of Washington works with students entering grades 1–12 who have been diagnosed with a language-based learning difference such as dyslexia, or a specific learning difference in reading, math, or writing. Many of our students also benefit from our focused work on executive functioning skills. Some of our students may have a secondary diagnosis of ADHD. The Lab School utilizes a variety of art forms (visual and performing) to support student learning. A Lab education focuses on students' strengths, interests, and passions and provides an experiential and multi-sensory approach to learning. The majority of Lab's graduating seniors move directly to college.

About the Position:
The Lab School of Washington seeks a full-time Middle School Science Teacher beginning in August.
Middle School Science classes meet daily and average 8–10 students, allowing for strong relationships, individualized support, and meaningful engagement. The successful candidate will create an engaging, hands-on learning environment that supports students with language-based learning differences through inquiry-and project-based science instruction. As part of Lab’s arts-integrated approach, the teacher will design multisensory learning experiences, collaborate closely with colleagues and specialists, and serve as a student advisor, supporting students’ academic and personal growth.

Compensation Range: $55,000 - $100,000
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Full-time position during the school year; 5 science classes + advisory
- Plan and implement hands-on science instruction using inquiry-based and project-based learning strategies.
- Design lessons that incorporate experimentation, design, and real-world problem solving.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with language-based learning differences.
- Facilitate the academic, social, and personal development of students through engaging and accessible instruction.
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
- Integrate technology and creative problem solving into classroom instruction.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and families regarding student progress and learning experiences.

Qualifications & Skills:
- Advanced degree preferred
- Knowledge of Next Generation Science Standards, middle school science content and methodology
- Experience teaching science to adolescents with learning differences
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently, especially as part of the broader Middle School Science team.
- Ideally, the candidate will have teaching certification in the District of Columbia, or be eligible and/or willing, with support, to complete the requirements for this certification.
- Strong interpersonal, written language, organizational, and communication skills
- Resourceful, flexible, collaborative, and service oriented
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift and transport materials and supplies weighing up to 20–25 lbs. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Frequent walking, reaching, and bending. Fine motor skills and steady hands.

The daily work environment is characteristic of a school setting, where noise levels can shift quickly from quiet clinical spaces to busy, high-activity areas. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced atmosphere, managing frequent transitions throughout the day, and maintaining professional focus despite common classroom distractions. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
