About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Behavioral Health Specialist to support clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. This role focuses on enhancing clients' daily living skills, community integration, and sobriety through structured activities, case management, and evidence-based practices aligned with the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver training in substance abuse prevention and sobriety maintenance using 12-step principles and evidence-based approaches for co-occurring disorders
- Provide transportation to community activities and AA/NA meetings
- Develop monthly activity calendars and identify community resources to support recovery
- Conduct drug screenings as needed
- Complete documentation including treatment plans and progress notes
- Organize and lead social and recreational activities tailored to ACT clientele
- Manage a caseload of clients, coordinating treatment teams and updating care plans based on evolving needs
- Offer supportive counseling and symptom management
- Educate and advocate for clients and their families
- Conduct comprehensive assessments across all life domains
- Provide on-call crisis intervention during assigned nights and weekends
- Maintain high fidelity to the ACT Model of Care
Principal Accountabilities
- Plan and implement social, recreational, and educational activities that support sobriety
- Complete Individual Treatment Plan (ITP) goals and required documentation
- Deliver substance abuse education
- Coordinate participation in 12-step community activities
QualificationsEducation:
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Human Services, or Addiction Counseling preferred
- Minimum ADT Trainee Status or certification (CAC, CAC-AD) required
Experience
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience in behavioral health or addiction services
- On-the-job training (2-3 months) required for optimal performance
Requirements
- Certified or eligible for certification in addictions treatment
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong understanding of mental illness and addiction recovery
