Hiring: Assistant Editor – SEO & AIO | Chennai 📰 The Hindu is looking for an experienced editorial professional with strong expertise in SEO and emerging AI optimisation (AIO) to join our digital newsroom. 📍 Location: Chennai Objective: We’re seeking a candidate with 12–14 years of newsroom experience to lead a team of sub-editors on the digital desk. The role involves editing, curating, optimising, and publishing content across verticals while adapting print stories for digital audiences.

Responsibilities

• Track news and developments across the regions and verticals such as politics, business, sports, and world affairs
• Edit and publish error-free copies from agencies, reporters and contributors in line with The Hindu's style
• Re-write articles for the online audience
• Manage and curate live updates
• Quickly convert breaking news developments into a full-fledged and accurate article with available limited inputs.
• Write and curate articles for niche products such as newsletters, apps
• Produce slideshows, photo features
• Curate articles based on trending topics
• Manage all the active sections of the website
• Brainstorm and execute special coverages
• Coordinate with other editorial and non-editorial teams
• Manage team of writers focusing on search engine optimisation Requirements:
• Any degree/post-graduation, preferably with journalism or communication as a major subject
• 12-14 years of work experience in a news desk of a media organisation
• Flair for news, politics, latest developments
• Good writing, editing, and language skills
• Ability to write quick, error-free articles in tight deadlines
• Understanding of HTML, website analytics, search engine and social media optimisation
• Basic knowledge in photo-editing, visualisation
• Flexibility to work in shifts and on public holidays.
• To read and write at least one Indian language is a plus.
• Prior experience in handling content management systems is a bonus.
• Good communication skills
