Position Overview:
The Arc is seeking a full-time Chief Development Officer (CDO). Reporting directly to the CEO and partnering closely with the Board and executive leadership, this role leads all philanthropic revenue generation. The CDO will help build and sustain a strong culture of philanthropy across staff, the Board, and volunteers; This position has direct reports and is eligible to telework twice per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expand and strengthen all fundraising streams, including annual giving, events, corporate sponsorships, and agency grants.
- Design and lead an ambitious, future-focused fundraising growth strategy that includes major gifts, annual and legacy giving, community building events, corporate partnerships, grants, and emerging revenue streams.
- Prioritize closing major gifts and cultivating multi-year strategic partnerships with corporations.
- Design and lead an ambitious, future-focused fundraising growth strategy that includes major gifts, annual and legacy giving, community building events, corporate partnerships, foundation support, government grants, and emerging revenue streams.
- Build and steward a robust pipeline of funders and partners.
- Personally cultivate and steward key donor and partner relationships, including high-net-worth individuals, foundations, healthcare executives, and community leaders.
- Collaborate with programs, finance, and communications teams to align revenue efforts with impact outcomes and strategic growth plans.
- Serve as a trusted thought partner to the CEO and the Executive Team on organizational strategy, growth, and mission alignment.
- Lead the annual planning and budgeting process for the Development department.
- Represent the agency at major external events, donor forums, and strategic convenings.
- Manage and oversee the departmental employees.
- Oversee strategy development, planning, and execution for events to ensure alignment with revenue goals and the strategic plan.
- Provide leadership for signature fundraising events.
- Oversee messaging and communications strategy to support fundraising and visibility.
- Establish systems, processes, and metrics to track fundraising performance. Evaluate performance, enhance participant experience, and identify opportunities for innovation and expansion.
- Oversee donor database strategy and reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in fundraising and development leadership, with demonstrated success in creating successful individual giving strategies using annual fund, endowment fund and campaign fund strategies, corporate partnerships, and special events.
- Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies and achieve revenue targets.
- A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication; strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage positive communication in difficult situations and the ability to provide candid/constructive feedback.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Experience working with board members and making Board presentations.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing high-performing teams.
