Job Description
Tensley Consulting is seeking a Software Engineer – Site Reliability (SRE – Cloud Platforms) to support the design, build, and operation of secure cloud infrastructure across government environments. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on automation, infrastructure-as-code, and custom tooling—not traditional systems administration. The SRE will work across Microsoft GCC High and Google Cloud environments to develop scalable, reliable infrastructure, build custom integrations where platform gaps exist, and modernize application deployments into repeatable, well-architected solutions.
This role operates in a GitOps model with a strong emphasis on code quality, peer review, and engineering discipline while supporting compliance requirements aligned with federal standards.
Education / Experience
Four (4) or more years of experience in software engineering, site reliability engineering, or cloud engineering roles supporting production environments is required.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Additional years of relevant software engineering or cloud engineering experience may be substituted for a degree.
Salary
$100,000–$200,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position, but is not guaranteed. Salary is based on experience, technical depth, cloud platform expertise, and contractual requirements which could fall outside of the range listed.
,
Required Skills
Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience contributing to a compiled codebase (Go, C#, C/C++, Java, Rust, or similar)
Experience designing, building, and maintaining cloud infrastructure in Google Cloud (GCP) and/or Microsoft Azure (GCC High / Gov Cloud)
Experience using Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, including module development and state management
Experience building custom tooling, automation, or services to solve integration and orchestration challenges
Experience working in a GitOps model, including code reviews, branching strategies, and merge request workflows
Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows
Experience building monitoring, observability, and alerting solutions for distributed systems
Experience identifying operational inefficiencies (toil) and replacing them with automated, version-controlled solutions
Experience working across multiple languages and toolchains (e.g., Go, Python, PowerShell, C#)
Experience developing technical documentation, including architecture designs, SOPs, and implementation guides
,
Desired Skills
Experience with Kubernetes and service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio)
Experience with Entra ID (Azure AD) in GCC High environments (service principals, conditional access, Graph API)
Experience designing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or similar)
Experience contributing to or debugging Terraform provider code
Experience with PowerShell (advanced/module-level) or Desired State Configuration (DSC)
Familiarity with NIST 800-53, 800-171, 800-172, or 800-207 (Zero Trust) frameworks
Strong networking fundamentals across Layers 3–7 and understanding of Zero Trust architecture
Experience supporting government or Intelligence Community (IC) cloud environments
Clearance
Active security clearance required. Secret or TS is acceptable, with TS/SCI (Polygraph preferred but not required depending on program).
