Job Description

Full Stack WordPress Developer & Web Designer

TechnicalitiesPlus is seeking a Full Stack WordPress Developer & Web Designer for a 15-month maternity leave replacement role which could possibly grow into a permanent position.

TechnicalitiesPlus is a Canadian full-service web development agency with 23 years of experience designing and building custom websites, applications, and digital strategies that help mission-driven organizations thrive. Grounded in a commitment to community, collaboration, and ethical innovation, we empower our clients to create meaningful impact through technology. Our commitment to building strong, respectful client relationships and delivering high-quality work is grounded in our core values: Excellence, Teamwork, Heart, Integrity, Creativity, and Social Responsibility (ETHICS).

We believe that our business can be a powerful change agent; we regularly evaluate the social and environmental impact that we have in our work and are currently engaged in a process to become B-Corp certified (https://www.bcorporation.net/en-us/certification/).

As a small dynamic team, our company culture is shaped by our commitment to learning, ownership, candor, and supporting each other. We’re interested in hearing from candidates from diverse backgrounds who share these values.

About the Role

We’re looking for someone who is comfortable designing and developing websites in WordPress, and who enjoys shaping both how things look and how they work. As a Web Developer at TechnicalitiesPlus, you’ll join a seasoned, supportive team that builds technology for good. You’ll have room to grow your skills while contributing to websites and applications that help nonprofits and mission-driven organizations make real impact.

Most of your work will center on WordPress development and front-end experience design, where you will create, customize, and maintain sites for our mission-driven and nonprofit clients. You will also provide hands-on support and training to help them make the most of their digital presence.

You’ll have the opportunity to work across a variety of projects and technologies, contributing to everything from complete site rebuilds to specific customizations and ongoing improvements. This is a fully remote and flexible role, ideal for someone who values meaningful work, autonomy, and a friendly, collaborative team environment.

Core Job Duties:

  • Design and prototype page layouts, components, and user flows that align with client brand guidelines and accessibility best practices.
  • Translate designs into responsive WordPress themes and templates, ensuring pixel-accurate implementation and a great experience across devices.
  • Develop accessible, user-friendly WordPress sites using custom themes and plugin-based solutions, including custom post types, taxonomies, Gutenberg/editor configurations, and modern page-builders where appropriate.
  • Build and maintain PHP and JS based functionality for custom web applications or to enhance WordPress sites beyond what’s available with out of the box plugins.
  • Provide direct support to clients, including troubleshooting and resolving bugs, updating site content, and training clients on how to manage their websites.
  • Develop and analyze custom reports using database queries to deliver actionable insights for our clients.
  • Collaborate on proposals, helping to gather technical specifications and brainstorm practical, budget-conscious solutions for our nonprofit and mission-driven clients.

We are seeking a candidate with the following skills and qualities:

  • You have experience designing UI (wireframes, page layouts, components) and collaborating with others in shared files.
  • You care about visual design details (typography, spacing, hierarchy, colour) and how they support usability and accessibility.
  • You enjoy solving problems creatively and collaboratively.
  • You communicate clearly and proactively.
  • You work independently with accountability and care.
  • You are enthusiastic about working with legacy systems
  • You adapt easily and love learning new tools.
  • You are a Canadian resident and eligible to work in Canada

While the following assets are not required, the ideal candidate would also have:

  • Experience turning Figma designs into production-ready WordPress sites.
  • Experience with design systems or reusable component libraries in Figma.
  • Experience with any of the following technologies:
  • Laravel
  • Moodle LMS
  • ColdFusion
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Other CMS/website builders (Shopify, Wix, SquareSpace, etc.)
  • Google Associate Workspace Administrator certification
  • French language proficiency

At TechnicalitiesPlus we offer:

  • Fully remote work environment with projects that have real social impact
  • Flexible schedule
  • Small supportive and inclusive team
  • 3 weeks Vacation + Sick & Wellness days
  • Many opportunities for professional development

Compensation

This role is ideal for a developer who has already shipped several custom WordPress sites or applications and is ready to take more ownership of both design and implementation.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $27 to $33, depending on experience and location. We review compensation annually (and as market conditions change) to ensure we remain aligned with our living wage commitments and industry norms for comparable roles. We are a living wage employer that values work–life balance and long-term relationships. Total weekly hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant but typically range between 30 and 35 paid hours per week.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at TechnicalitiesPlus:

At TechnicalitiesPlus, we believe that diverse perspectives drive innovation, creativity, and stronger communities. We are proud to be a women-owned and queer-owned Canadian company that values inclusion in all its forms; across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, ability, religion, and lived experience.

We recognize that systemic barriers continue to exist in our society and we are committed to doing our part to remove them. We encourage applications from equity-deserving groups, including (but not limited to) Indigenous Peoples, people of colour, women, members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and persons with disabilities.

If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.

If we can make the recruitment process more accessible for you, please let us know and we will work with you to meet your needs.
