Job Description: Technical Design Authority (TDA)

A Technical Design Authority (TDA) is responsible for governing, validating, and ensuring the integrity of technical architecture and design across projects or an entire organization. The TDA acts as the bridge between business requirements and technical implementation , ensuring that all solutions align with enterprise standards, non‑functional requirements, and long-term technology strategy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Architecture Governance

  • Define and maintain architectural standards, design patterns, and technology guidelines.
  • Ensure consistent use of technologies and processes across the enterprise to reduce cost and complexity.

2. Technical Design Review & Approval

  • Review solution designs submitted by project teams.
  • Validate technical designs against non-functional requirements such as security, scalability, privacy, and performance.

3. Business–Technology Alignment

  • Translate business needs and strategies into technical architecture decisions.
  • Act as the central liaison between business stakeholders and engineering teams.

4. Continuous Delivery Oversight

  • Ensure solutions fit into the continuous delivery framework and support automated, repeatable releases.
  • Verify that releases meet architectural and quality requirements before approval.

5. Technology Reuse & Optimization

  • Identify opportunities to reuse existing services, components, and patterns to increase efficiency.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies that align with organizational goals.

6. Risk & Compliance Management

  • Anticipate architectural risks and enforce mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with security, regulatory, and audit standards.

Skills & Competencies Required

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks.
  • Expertise in cloud platforms, integration technologies, security architecture, and system design.
  • Ability to evaluate and approve solution architectures.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related field.
  • 8–15 years of experience in Solution Architecture, Software Engineering, or Technical Leadership roles.
  • Experience in enterprise-scale transformation projects preferred.
