The Basics: We are looking for a US Payroll Manager to join the Global Payroll team and fully own and drive all aspects of US payroll operations. Tanium currently operates payroll across 15 countries for 2,200+ employees and growing. The ideal candidate has deep knowledge of US Payroll Operations and has a passion for innovative payroll solutions. This position will foster relationships with senior internal stakeholders by establishing and maintaining exceptional business relationships and working collaboratively with other organizational teams. The candidate is expected to be hands-on as they complete day-to-day payroll operations, support new and existing pay programs, and drive process standardization, automation, and improvement.  They will have a very strong fundamental understanding of multi-state US payroll and payroll tax management.    This position follows the Company’s hybrid schedule which currently requires employees to work in the office at one of the following locations a minimum of three days per week: Addison, TX; Bellevue, WA; Durham, NC; Emeryville, CA; or Reston, VA.   What you’ll do: <ul> <li>Own the payroll processing of US salaried payroll for 1,400 employees and hourly payroll for 100 employees. </li> <li>Prepare payroll input files, process and review payroll outputs to verify accuracy and compliance, confirming that all data is properly recorded and processed according to company policies.  </li> <li>Act as subject matter expert in US payroll providing valuable insights, guidance and assistance to other team members and internal stakeholders.   </li> <li>Perform ongoing reconciliation and audit of data flowing from multiple systems into the payroll platform, resolving discrepancies and errors to maintain data integrity and compliance.   </li> <li>Lead automation initiatives and process enhancements within the payroll department, collaborating cross-functionally with HR, IT, Legal, and Accounting to streamline and optimize payroll operations—including benefits administration and withholdings (e.g., leave of absence, employee benefits, 401k, FSA, etc.).  </li> <li>Ensure adherence to best practices to minimize errors and maintain operational excellence. </li> <li>Assist with month-end close activities such as payroll journal entries and GL account reconciliations. </li> <li>Respond to employee inquiries and serve as liaison between employee and third-party providers. </li> <li>Audit, reconcile and fund 401k contributions associated with each payroll.  Research and resolve discrepancies in real time. </li> <li>Research and review payroll tax reporting and ensure accurate and timely filings with appropriate government authorities.  </li> <li>Manage and track tax inquiries, amendments, adjustments and follow up with tax team as needed. </li> <li>Complete quarter-end and year-end reconciliations for tax filings and W-2 filings. </li> <li>Independently lead payroll related audits, such as Workers Compensation and 401k. </li> <li>Provide ad-hoc support and services on special projects and implementations as needed. </li> <li>Provide ad-hoc coverage and support on international payroll as needed. </li> </ul>   We’re looking for someone with: <ul> <li>Minimum of 7 years of end-to-end payroll processing including companies with 1,800+ employees. </li> <li>Strong knowledge of payroll systems: UKG Pro and UKG WFM. NetSuite, SAP SuccessFactors, PwC Global Payroll and Workday are a plus. </li> <li>US payroll subject matter expertise – strong understanding of payroll processes, best practices, and thorough knowledge of payroll-related state, legal, tax, and compliance requirements. </li> <li>Strong verbal and written communication skills needed to interface and establish rapport with all levels of the organization including executive team members.      </li> <li>A proactive, high-energy approach with exceptional management skills and meticulous attention to detail to deliver outstanding customer service. </li> <li>Knowledge of equity issues and how they relate to multi-state payroll reporting and tax (RSU, NQ, ISO) </li> <li>Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups).   </li> <li>Experience/certification preferred, but not required: </li> <li>CPP </li> <li>Payroll accounting </li> <li>SOX compliance and considerations  </li> <li> </li> <li>Additional consideration given to candidates with: </li> <li>International payroll experience including Canada, EMEA and/or APAC to support our international team with payroll review and reconciliations.   </li> <li>Payroll systems implementation experience         </li> <li>UKG Pro experience including system configuration, maintenance, and optimization. </li> <li>Experience in building payroll processes and internal controls in a fast-paced environment. </li> </ul>   About Tanium  <div>Tanium is the Autonomous IT company. This range is an estimate for what Tanium will pay a new hire.
