Job Description
Company Description
TAKEnergy captures energy from pressure regulation in oil & gas and industrial facilities to generate clean, carbon-free power. Our core technology is an expander-generator system that converts the potential energy in natural gas pressure drops into electrical power for grid export or on-site self-supply. Our systems are grid-connected and fully automated with remote monitoring, protection relaying, and real-time data acquisition.
Having completed several successful field demonstration projects, we are now gearing up for commercial launch. This is your opportunity to help transition breakthrough technology into scalable, repeatable commercial solutions.
Position Overview
The Electrical Systems EIT/Engineer will play a key role in commercializing TAKEnergy’s expander technology by integrating it into real-world oil & gas and industrial applications. This position focuses on system integration, particularly electrical systems, controls & automation and preparing the technology for repeatable commercial deployment. You will bridge core technology, site-specific requirements, and commercial packaging to ensure reliable, compliant, and scalable installations.
We are seeking a highly motivated EIT or Engineer with 0–5 years of experience to work in our Calgary office. New graduates with relevant co-op, capstone, or internship experience in power systems, automation, or industrial integration are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Integrate TAKEnergy’s expander systems into natural gas and industrial facilities, with particular focus on electrical integration and behind-the-meter power applications.
- Create power system drawings, including single line diagrams, MCC layouts, cable schedules, control system drawings, and wiring schematics.
- Develop and support control system architecture, including PLC programming, automation logic, and system commissioning.
- Ensure designs meet hazardous area classification requirements (Class I Div 1/2) for natural gas facility installations.
- Support system-level design optimization for repeatability, manufacturability, and commercial packaging.
- Assist with technical documentation, specifications, and client-facing materials for commercial proposals.
- Participate in commissioning activities, site visits, and performance validation in the field.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Registered or eligible for registration as an E.I.T. or P.Eng. with APEGA (or transferable from another Canadian provincial association).
- Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to work across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.
- Ability to learn and work independently, take ownership of technical problems, and find solutions with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to work in the field — including harsh weather, remote locations, and industrial environments.
- Knowledge of IEEE standards and Canadian Electrical Code
- Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites for commissioning and integration support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with power distribution systems in the 120–600VAC range: SLDs, MCC layouts, cable schedules, VFDs, switchgear, protection relays.
- Experience with PLC programming and industrial automation
- Familiarity with SCADA/HMI systems and industrial controls commissioning.
- Understanding of generators, grid interconnection requirements, and behind-the-meter power applications.
- Oil & gas facility experience or familiarity with industrial facility integration.
- Co-op, internship, or capstone project experience in relevant areas.
Why Join TAKEnergy?
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of clean energy innovation and practical industrial deployment. You will help shape how a novel technology transitions from demonstration projects to commercial scale.
We offer competitive compensation, extended health benefits, exposure to cutting-edge projects, and the opportunity to play a meaningful role in scaling a high-impact energy technology.
Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 CAD per year
