Lead Power BI Developer

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is on the lookout for an exceptional Lead Power BI Developer.

Location: 100% on-site downtown Washington DC. This is an on-site position located in downtown Washington DC. Remote or telework is not authorized. There are no exceptions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Engage in the planning and design of Power BI reporting solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and stakeholder satisfaction.
• Architect, design, and develop interactive Power BI reports and dashboards that are user-friendly and aligned with established UI/UX standards.
• Develop Power BI data strategies and models that cater to complex reporting and analytics while ensuring optimal performance.
• Integrate data from various sources into Power BI through Composite Data Models, ensuring accurate data transformation and presentation.
• Implement necessary security measures within Power BI reports to maintain data confidentiality, integrity, and adherence to VA governance policies.
• Continuously monitor and enhance the performance of Power BI outputs to ensure efficient operations and improved user experience.
• Collaborate with business analysts, database administrators, and other VA stakeholders to deliver Power BI solutions that fit business needs.
• Create comprehensive test plans and carry out thorough testing of Power BI outputs, documenting and resolving any software defects.
• Prepare training materials and assist in educating end users about software products developed.
• Actively participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning and retrospectives, to ensure timely completion of development tasks.
• Gather feedback from stakeholders to improve UI/UX of delivered Power BI reports, documenting lessons learned for future reference.
• Mentor junior developers and provide guidance on best practices in software development, data integration, and system design.

Required Skills and Experience

• Master's degree in computer science or technical disciplines (an additional 10 years of experience can substitute for a Master's degree).
• 15+ years of relevant experience, including 8+ years in developing Power BI dashboards and reporting products, particularly data warehousing solutions.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearance.

Desired Experience Previous experience supporting a U.S. Federal Government agency.
