Part time - Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Spring Boot)

ImmiHub is a technology platform that helps immigrants in the US securely manage their documents, track visa deadlines, and stay compliant. We serve a large and underserved market and are building a product that people genuinely rely on.

The Role (Part time 20-25 hrs/week)

We're looking for a senior backend engineer to build and own our backend from the ground up. You'll work closely with our CTO, who provides architecture guidance and reviews all code. This is a high-ownership role - you're not joining a large team, you're the person who builds and ships the backend.

What You'll Work On

• Design and build RESTful APIs consumed by a cross-platform mobile and web app
• Implement secure user authentication and authorization
• Build document management features including cloud storage and automated processing pipelines
• Develop background job processing for scheduled tasks and async workflows
• Set up and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS
• Write clean, tested, production-ready code from day one

Must-Have Skills

• Java 17 and Spring Boot 3.x - production experience, not just familiarity
• PostgreSQL - schema design, query optimization, JPA/Hibernate
• AWS - hands-on with EC2, S3, RDS and at least 2–3 other services
• REST API design - clean contracts, proper error handling, Swagger/OpenAPI docs
• JUnit 5 + Mockito - testing is not optional here
• Flyway or Liquibase for database migrations
• Git - clean branching, PR workflow, descriptive commits

Nice to Have

• Experience with async messaging (SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka)
• AWS Cognito or similar managed auth services
• OCR or document processing integrations
• Background in healthtech, fintech, or legal/immigration tech
