JOB OVERVIEW
Sunrise is seeking a highly proficient, business-minded lawyer with excellent interpersonal, analytical and matter management skills to join our legal team as a transactional Assistant General Counsel.
RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential Duties
As a part of the Sunrise team, supporting our Mission, Principles of Service and Core Values is a fundamental part of this job. Our foundational belief is the sacred value of human life. The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed as follows:
- Provide legal support to the Real Estate, Development, and Asset Management teams of Sunrise Senior Living.
- Provide advice and counsel on a broad range of legal matters, including real estate transactions and development matters, purchase and sale agreements, letters of intent, title/survey diligence oversight, financings, senior living management contracts, joint venture agreements, and other related contracts, drafting and negotiating other transactional and general contracts, and providing general corporate advice and assistance.
- Support business policies and practices with the ability to explain these policies and procedures clearly to others.
- Ensure compliance with all laws relating to applicable work performed.
- Advise business and operational team members and senior managers on all aspects of related work.
- Maintain compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed throughout this job description are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
- 6-7 years of experience as a lawyer in a law firm, business, or government, focused on corporate, real estate, development and contract work
- A background in corporate, real estate, and finance work is preferred
- Attorney license in good standing and admission to the bar in at least one state
- Possess strong business acumen and integrate legal and business objectives
- Ability to exercise sound legal and business judgement and ability to influence at varying levels of the organization
- Experience with senior living and/or the hospitality industries preferred
