LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job
Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) in collaboration with the University of Maryland, the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), and the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) is seeking two Database Specialists to work as a part of a team to design, develop, implement, maintain and control the data architecture for Maryland Longitdinal Data System.\r\n
POSITION DUTIES
Provides instruction and support to external agencies regarding process for extracting required data for MLDS; supports the development of logical and physical database architecture; ensures appropriate modifications to the data models of schema; analyzes data received from external agencies and executes necessary functions to translate and report data to satisfy the business and technical needs of MLDS databases; loads data into MLDS databases and completes data validation to ensure the data transformation and loading is successful and accurate; troubleshoots problems related to data flow, information storage, and data access; creates written procedures of all Database Specialist, ETL Developer functions designed and carried out by MLDS and external agencies; creates reports and manages meta data; utilizes OBIEE front end tools to develop data sets and reports in support of MLDS research efforts.\r\n
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related fields to include course work in database management systems. \r\nEXPERIENCE: One year of experience designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling database management systems for computers. \r\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of data systems or related student data systems; knowledge of the principals and practices of designing, developing, implementing, maintaining and controlling complex database management systems; knowledge of system documentation; knowledge of OBIEE tools; knowledge of protocols and use of meta data; knowledge of the functions and capabilities of computer systems, and data communication networks; skill in implementing, controlling and evaluating database management systems; skill in documenting new and revised database management systems procedures and standards; skill in using diagnostic and performance tools and other software products to maintain established standards for database management systems; ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with system users, vendors, computer operations personnel, programmer analysts and technical support specialists.\r\n
