Job Description

The ideal candidate will have OSSE Clearance documents completed. If hired, the selected candidate would be eligible to apply for up to $14,000.00 in DC Early Educator Supplemental Payments.

St. Timothy's Episcopal Child Development Center (CDC) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Lead Infant Toddler Early Educator to join our team of professionals in providing high-quality early education and care for our young learners. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in early childhood education, meet the necessary qualifications set by the Office of the State Superintendent (OSSE), and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for infants and toddlers in accordance with OSSE regulations and best practices.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
  • Provide responsive and individualized care to meet the unique needs of each child, including feeding, diapering, and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure effective communication, seamless transitions, and the overall well-being of children.
  • Establish positive and open communication with parents and families, sharing progress, insights, and addressing any concerns.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including attendance, assessments, and individualized plans.Qualifications:
  • Minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
  • Meet all requirements set by the Office of the State Superintendent (OSSE) for infant and toddler educators.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Pursuing ongoing higher learning in the field of Early Education, such as coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Passion for working with infants and toddlers and supporting their holistic growth.

Position Description

The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

Education and Experience Requirements (per OSSE licensing requirements)

A Teacher must be 21 years of age and meet one of the education and experience qualifications below:

  • An associate or more advanced degree with a major in early childhood education, early childhood development, child and family studies, or a closely related field; OR
  • An associate or more advanced degree with a major in any field and at least twenty-four (24) semester credit hours in early childhood education, early childhood development, child and family studies, or a closely related field, and at least one (1) year of supervised occupational experience working with children in a licensed District of Columbia Child Development Center or its equivalent in another jurisdiction; OR
  • At least forty-eight (48) semester credit hours with at least fifteen (15) semester hours in early childhood education, early childhood development, or child and family studies, and at least at least two (2) years of supervised occupational experience working with children in a licensed District of Columbia Child Development Center or its equivalent in another jurisdiction; OR

OR

  • For a Montessori school teacher, an associate’s degree or higher and a Montessori certificate issued by the National Center for Montessori Education, American Montessori Society, or the

Association Montessori International, or a program accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Commission for Teacher Education

Important Note: By December 2023, Teachers are required to have an associate degree with a major in early childhood education, early childhood development, child and family studies, or a closely related field

or an associate’s or more advanced degree with a major in any field with at least twenty-four (24) semester credit hours in early childhood education, early childhood development, child and family studies, or a closely related field and at least one (1) year of supervised occupational experience working with children in a licensed District of Columbia Child Development Center or its equivalent in another jurisdiction.

Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Program Education Requirements (per regulations)

A Teacher in a Pre-K Enhancement and Expansion Program classroom must meet one of the education qualifications below:

  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, early childhood special education or child and family studies; OR
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than child development, early childhood education, early childhood special education, or child and family studies and have earned eighteen (18) credits in early childhood education; OR
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a field other than child development, early childhood education, early childhood special education or child and family studies and successful completion of applicable Early Childhood Praxis Exams

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $29.17 - $34.14 per hour
