St. Mary's College of Maryland at Historic St. Mary's City is accepting resumes for the position of Campus Police Officer. This position is responsible for the safety and security of all College properties and persons during the assigned shifts. The Campus Police Officer will patrol designated areas of the College buildings, grounds and adjacent public areas to provide deterrent patrols to enforce the statutes of the State of Maryland, and the rules and regulations of St. Mary's College. This is a sworn armed position with law enforcement authority by a Special Police Commission. This position reports to a Sergeant following the normal hierarchy of the Public Safety Department.
Non-sectarian since its founding, St. Mary's College of Maryland, a public Carnegie Baccalaureate, Arts and Sciences institution located in Historic St. Mary's City, 70 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., has been designated as Maryland's public honors college. Undergraduate and residential in nature, with a diverse coeducational student body numbering approximately 1800, St. Mary's emphasizes excellence in teaching. The institution was awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in 1997. The quality of life is enhanced by the recreational opportunities of the Chesapeake region and close proximity to the amenities of Washington D.C., Baltimore and Richmond.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- At least two (2) years' experience as a Public Safety Officer with St. Mary's College or four (4) years with another law enforcement or security department
- Must be eligible to carry a firearm and obtain a wear and carry permit issued by the Maryland State Police
- Must have no disciplinary complaints recorded
- Must possess a valid Maryland driver's license
- Must pass a physical agility assessment, psychological test, and a medical examination to include drug screening; must undergo a complete background investigation
- Excellent customer service and public relations skills
- Basic computer skills
- Must have or be able to obtain CPR, First Aid Certifications and a Special Police Commission
The successful applicant will be subject to a criminal background check and substance abuse testing.
Any combination of acceptable education and experience, which has provided the necessary knowledge and skills to fulfill the requirements of this position, may be considered.
Employment will be contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
