Job Description

An echo technician, also known as an echocardiography technician or cardiac sonographer, uses specialized ultrasound equipment to create detailed images of a patient's heart, allowing cardiologists to diagnose heart conditions by assessing the heart's structure and function; their responsibilities include operating the ultrasound machine, preparing patients for the procedure, explaining the process, capturing high-quality images, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure accurate diagnosis and patient care.

Key duties of an echo technician:

  • Performing echocardiograms:Operating ultrasound equipment to generate images of the heart chambers, valves, and blood flow to assess heart function.
  • Patient preparation:Explaining the procedure to patients, addressing concerns, and positioning them appropriately for the scan.
  • Image acquisition:Capturing clear, high-quality images of the heart using different ultrasound techniques.
  • Data interpretation:Analyzing preliminary results, identifying potential abnormalities, and documenting findings for the cardiologist.
  • Collaboration with healthcare team:Working closely with cardiologists to discuss patient history, interpret findings, and develop treatment plans.
  • Maintaining equipment:Ensuring the ultrasound machine is properly calibrated and functioning correctly.
