Role Overview

The Senior Agronomist will lead organic farming operations with a strong focus on soil health, sustainability, and scalable agricultural systems. This role combines field execution, research, and team leadership to enhance productivity while maintaining organic integrity. The incumbent will work closely with farmers, internal teams, and certification bodies to drive excellence in organic agriculture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and execution of organic crop production across multiple locations.
  • Develop and implement long-term soil health strategies (soil organic carbon, microbial activity, soil structure)
  • Design crop rotation, intercropping, and regenerative farming models
  • Oversee preparation and application of organic inputs (compost, vermicompost, biofertilizers, botanical extracts)
  • Ensure compliance with organic certification standards (NPOP, USDA Organic, EU Organic)
  • Manage documentation, traceability systems, and audit readiness
  • Monitor soil testing programs and translate insights into nutrient management plans
  • Implement integrated pest and disease management using biological methods
  • Lead, train, and mentor agronomy teams and field staff
  • Collaborate with farmer groups, FPOs, and external stakeholders
  • Analyze farm performance data and drive continuous improvement
  • Promote regenerative practices such as mulching and cover cropping
  • Manage agronomy budgets and optimize input costs

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Soil Science, or related field
  • 6–12 years of experience, preferably in organic or sustainable agriculture
  • Proven experience managing agronomy teams or large-scale farm operations
  • Strong expertise in soil science, nutrient management, and organic systems
  • Familiarity with organic certification standards and audit processes
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems and efficient water management
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent stakeholder communication skills

  • Experience in regenerative and climate-resilient agriculture
  • Hands-on expertise in composting, vermicomposting, and bio-inputs
  • Knowledge of regional crops and agro-climatic conditions
