We are seeking a highly organized and collaborative bilingual Communications Manager with a passion for sport to join Sport Manitoba. This role is responsible for leading the development, execution, and evaluation of Sport Manitoba’s overall communications strategy. This includes managing the annual communications calendar and developing communication plans for key organizational initiatives such as safe sport and volunteer recruitment. The role oversees internal and external communications, including CEO messaging, speeches, and organizational reporting such as the annual report, business plan, and other key documents. The Communications Manager serves as the primary media contact for Sport Manitoba, leading media relations activities, developing media materials, and identifying strategic opportunities for exposure. The role also leads crisis communications planning and response, supervises the Marketing & Communications Assistant, supports communications for major events and initiatives such as Team Manitoba at the Canada Games, and provides communications guidance and support to internal teams and Provincial Sport Organizations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a communications/marketing role.
- Demonstrated experience developing communication strategies and executing tactical plans.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in digital platforms and tools, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience working with multiple stakeholders and volunteers.
- Thorough understanding of media relations best practices and communication ethics.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to communicate in both English and French.
- Experience supervising staff is an asset.
