This is a hybrid position, working partially at the client site in Washington D.C., and partially remote. All candidates must be based in the Washington D.C. area.
Spire Communications is hiring a full-time, highly skilled senior communications professional with demonstrated expertise in media relations and public relations (PR)/ public affairs (PA) writing to join our team. This position is an exceptional opportunity to support organizations that are revolutionizing biomedical research and health innovation.
We will consider only senior-level candidates with at least 10 years’ experience in PR/PA (including at least 5 years in health research or life sciences) and a demonstrated history of successful media relations placements.
Spire Communications is a woman-owned strategic communications and creative firm based in Alexandria, VA, specializing in communications for science, technology, and engineering organizations across the government and private sectors.
What You’ll Do
- Lead proactive and reactive media relations
- Work closely with local, national, and global news media
- Write, edit, and promote press releases, media interview responses, talking points, bylines, and other public affairs documents that include scientific and technical information
- Write content for social media and web
- Create messaging and positioning strategies
- Create communications plans for new clients
What You’ll Bring to Spire

- Ability to manage large accounts independently with minimal supervision
- Foundational knowledge with social media for LinkedIn and Twitter
