The Opportunity

As a Public Relations Specialist, you will play a vital role in enhancing the university's reputation through proactive media engagement, strategic storytelling, and responsive support. Your duties will include researching and drafting press releases, managing media inquiries, pitching compelling stories, and conducting media monitoring.

Your Responsibilities Include:

• Drafting press releases, media advisories, and statements that align with the university's strategic priorities and mission.
• Pitching creative story ideas to media outlets at the local, regional, and trade levels.
• Managing media lists, tracking reporters, and nurturing press relationships.
• Responding to media inquiries and coordinating interviews or requests.
• Identifying storytelling opportunities and crafting engaging written content such as features and profiles.
• Supporting crisis communications through drafting holding statements and monitoring media sentiment.
• Tracking and compiling daily media coverage and preparing reports for leadership.
• Conducting research to enhance messaging and outreach efforts.
• Collaborating with internal teams for consistent messaging and communication timing.
• Demonstrating attendance, punctuality, and reliability as essential functions of this role.
• Fulfilling additional duties as assigned.

What We Seek:

• A minimum of 3 years' experience in media relations, public relations, journalism, or communications.
• A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience in lieu of a degree).
• Strong news judgment, writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
• Experience in pitching media and securing coverage.
• Ability to thrive under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
• Experience in higher education, nonprofit, agency, news, or similar environments is preferred.

Compensation

The annual pay range for this position is $64,283.00 - $102,872.00. Actual offers will depend on skills, qualifications, experience, and other considerations. Target hiring range is $71,033.00 - $96,103.00.
