Title: Classification Officer – Human Resources

Position Type:Full-Time, Temporary (Canada Summer Jobs)

Anticipated Dates: May 11, 2026 – August 29, 2026

Hours: 35 hours per week; primarily weekdays for 16 Weeks

Location: 962 Bloor St West and in the community

Supervisor: Human Resources Manager

Compensation: $17.60/hour + 4% vacation pay (4% of gross income)

Sistering is a multi-service agency which offers practical and emotional support to women and trans people facing a variety of challenging life circumstances, including poverty, homelessness, social isolation, mental health and trauma histories.

What We Do

Sistering’s programs include a low-barrier 24/7 Drop In, Housing and Case Support, Harm Reduction, Peer Outreach, On the Path to Employment and Spun Studio social enterprise, and individual and systemic advocacy.

Sistering operates on a trauma-informed and relationship-based model and our harm reduction philosophy is a core element of all the work we do: we are here to respond to participants’ needs, where they are at, in the moment, to support participants to learn how to reduce harm and/or increase safety. In addition, we recognize that their lives have meaning and value.

POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Assistant to join our team through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to gain practical experience in nonprofit human resources and workplace administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with recruitment efforts, including posting jobs, screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and onboarding new employees
  • Provide administrative support to HR managers and coordinators, including maintaining employee records and updating HRIS systems
  • Support payroll and benefits administration; respond to general employee inquiries
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee relations and engagement, helping foster a positive and inclusive work environment
  • Assist with compliance tasks, generate HR-related reports, and support health, safety, and training initiatives
  • Organize and track employee training sessions, including mandatory and professional development opportunities

Other Duties as Assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Academic background in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with HRIS (ADP Workforce Now) is an asset
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Demonstrated interest in social justice, equity, and working with diverse communities
  • A professional and empathetic approach to handling sensitive information and employee concerns

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for this position, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the position
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position works in the office and community. Sistering is a 24/7 operation, fast paced, intense environment. There may be the risk of exposure to potentially unpredictable behaviours and situations. Sistering is a pet friendly facility and as such, employees can expect to be in the proximity of animals.
