Position Description
Position: Marketing and Communications Officer
Site: Hybrid: MaRS Discovery Tower and Remote (minimum 3 days per week on site)
Department: Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research
Reports to: Manager, Planning and Operations
Salary Range: 78,955 to 98,689 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Status: Temporary Full Time (12 to 13 months, maternity leave coverage)

We are an innovative and groundbreaking collaborative organization formed by three partner institutions (Hospital for Sick Children, University Health Network, and the University of Toronto), bringing together basic, translational, and clinical research under one umbrella with a singular focus on addressing heart failure across the entire life span.
As the Marketing and Communications Officer, you have a unique opportunity to use your creativity, strategic communications expertise, and passion for science to support and enable our collaborative research teams of current and next generation experts. Acting as a resource to our community of investigators across our partner institutions, you will bring to life the experience of living with heart failure and its impact, showcase innovative research, technology, and digital solutions that address heart failure, and help build a community with shared purpose and vision.
We are looking for a team member who is goal oriented and self motivated, and who will engage thoughtfully with scientific and clinical leaders, student trainees, and people with lived experience while improving the experiences of patients, caregivers, and families living with heart failure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the continued implementation of the communications strategy, in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic plan. This includes knowledge translation, strategic outreach, and social media content calendar management.
- Research and translate complex scientific information into engaging materials such as written content, videos, infographics, and presentations for internal and external audiences, with a key focus on storytelling through video content strategies across all social channels.
- Grow communication channels including the website, social media, and newsletter, ensuring timely and effective delivery. Stay current with communication trends and tools to determine the best approach for internal and external audiences.
- Manage the redesign of the Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research external facing website in collaboration with an agency partner and internal stakeholders, delivering an enhanced user experience with refreshed branding and strategic priorities.
- Conceptualize and assist with the format and setup of educational and stakeholder engagement events such as local and international conferences, town halls, and workshops.
- Prepare materials documenting progress against goals, such as the annual donor report.
- Analyze data and evaluate results to ensure effectiveness of marketing efforts and initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships across the partnership network.
- Support the communications needs of the team.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a communications specialist with a minimum of five years of relevant communications, media, knowledge translation, and or marketing experience.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate and engage effectively with a variety of audiences.
- Experience implementing communications plans in a consultative manner across a variety of channels and media including reports, web, and social media.
- Knowledge of photo and video editing software.
- Ability to interpret, translate, and distill scientific research from primary sources into compelling and engaging communications.
- Excellent organizational, time, and project management skills with the ability to plan projects, achieve results, and meet critical timelines in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Experience working with research evidence, metrics, and measures of productivity, with the ability to track, describe, summarize, and profile research or network successes and achievements.
- Experience conceptualizing, planning, and executing educational and stakeholder engagement events.
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, knowledge translation, applied health sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Assets (Non Essential):
- Post secondary education in science or experience working in a health or research environment.
- Working knowledge of artificial intelligence tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
- Experience with WordPress and Canva.
