Job Summary The Shop Quality Controller plays a key role in ensuring that incoming raw materials and finished products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
This role supports daily inspection activities, maintains accurate quality records, and contributes to continuous improvement within the Quality Management System (QMS).
This position is primarily shopfloor based (approximately 75%), with 25% office work related to documentation and reporting.
Job Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming materials and finished products to ensure they meet company quality standards and specifications.
- Complete dimension and visual inspections of welded piping and structural steel.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation.
- Identify, document, and report defects or non-conformances.
- Coordinate with production teams to support rework, corrections, and quality improvements.
- Assist with corrective actions and participate in internal and external quality audits.
- Safely and properly use measurement tools and inspection equipment.
- Follow and support company quality procedures, standards, and ISO requirements.
- Work collaboratively with production and management to maintain quality expectations.
Requirements
- Level 1 Welding Inspector Certification (required) or higher.
- At least 2 years of previous industry related Quality Control experience.
- Minimum 2 years of welding or fabrication experience (asset).
- Have an understanding of ASME and CSA codes and practices
- Understanding of quality control practices and weld defect identification.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication specifications.
- Experience using measurement tools and inspection equipment.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving ability.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to obtain or complete training in Fall Arrest, WHMIS, First Aid, Crane Operation, and Forklift Operation.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required).
- Level 1 Welding Inspector Certification (asset).
- Experience working within a Quality Management System (QMS) or ISO environment (asset).
