About the Role

We are currently looking for a Senior Systems Administrator (Hybrid Azure / On-Prem Windows Server) to fill a vacancy and join our IT team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Infrastructure & Security, this role operates with broad autonomy and is accountable for the stability, security, and long-term technical direction of the organization’s core infrastructure platforms.

What You Will Do:

• Research, evaluate, and architect Azure Local (Azure Stack HCI) solutions alongside on-premises Hyper-V clusters for high-availability virtualization in a new data center deployment.
• Serve as the internal owner and escalation authority for third party SOC 24×7 threat detection, investigation, guided remediation, and incident response.
• Own and define security best practices, conduct regular audits, apply patches (WSUS/server firmware/OS/workstation software), and harden servers, networks, and endpoints.
• Design, deploy, secure, and optimize Azure resources, including virtual machines (IaaS), SaaS/PaaS services, identity (Entra ID hybrid), networking, and security features (e.g., Defender/ATP).
• Manage, monitor, and maintain on-premises Microsoft infrastructure, including Active Directory, Exchange (on-prem/hybrid), Windows Servers (2012–2022), MSSQL databases, and RDS environments with published RemoteApp applications and Connection Broker.
• Monitor system performance, capacity, and health across hybrid environments; proactively troubleshoot and resolve incidents to maintain uptime and reliability.
• Configure and manage core networking infrastructure, including switches (HPE/Aruba), firewalls (SonicWall), VLANs, and hybrid connectivity to Azure.
• Administer multi-site backup and disaster recovery operations using Veeam Backup & Replication, ensuring 3-2-1 backups, replication, and cloud offsite storage/validation.
• Deliver Tier 2/3 technical support for escalated issues, as the technical authority for hybrid infrastructure standards, patterns and operational practices across the organization, and mentor Tier 1 Desktop support staff.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by IT and business leadership, including project work, vendor coordination, and emerging technology evaluations.

What You Need to Succeed:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
• 10+ years in On-Prem Systems/Server Administration
• CompTIA Server+, Network + , Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator, Azure Administrator Associate
• Hands-on experience building a Hyper-V in production environments, HPE SAN
• Handling connections published remote applications with RDS App farms
• Proven experience with disaster recovery planning in multi-site environments.
• Strong problem-solving, communication for cross-teams collaboration, organizational, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills
• Technical expertise in:
• Hyper‑V Cluster virtualization (Virtual Machine Manager -VMM)
• Microsoft Active Directory, On-Prem Exchange, Failover DHCP, Domain Trusts
• Azure (VMs, SaaS/PaaS offerings, IAM, Microsoft Defender/ATP)
• Firewalls, switches, networking (Sonicwall, HPE, Aruba)
• Backup and recovery systems (Veeam Backup & Replication)
• Patch management (WSUS or Intune equivalent)
• Automated Scripting (PowerShell, Python, KQL)

Work Location & Minimum Pay Rate

This is a full-time, hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in our Guelph location. This position offers a minimum starting salary of $72,200, with potential compensation enhancements based on applicable experience and qualifications. Please note, this role requires the participation in on-call rotation to provide after-hours production support.
