System Administrator Intern - 8 Month Term

What’s exciting about this position?

Sectra is looking for a System Administrator Intern to support our internal IT operations. This role offers hands-on experience with real production systems in a fast-growing healthcare technology environment.

As an intern, you’ll work closely with experienced system administrators and IT professionals, gaining exposure to system configuration, user support, networking, and security best practices. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build practical experience in IT operations and system administration.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of laptops and software.
• Provide Tier 1 technical support for hardware, software, and basic network issues.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights in Active Directory or similar systems.
• Support regular system updates, patches, and backups.
• Assist with the maintenance of network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls) under supervision.
• Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
• Help with employee onboarding and offboarding, including device setup and access configuration.
• Follow security best practices and assist with IT compliance initiatives.
• Collaborate with senior administrators on system upgrades and internal projects.

Think you’ve got what it takes? Great. Here's a few more boxes we’re also hoping you can tick:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of Windows and/or Linux operating systems.
• Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
• Knowledge of system administration tools (e.g., Active Directory, Group Policy).
• Experience troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Also nice to have:

• Exposure to Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
• Introductory knowledge of cybersecurity concepts.
