Reporting to the Fleet Supervisor, this position ensures delivery of all second Harvest food is executed in a safe and efficient manner and that the distribution of food is executed equitably to all member programs. The Driver-Ambassador also acts as a representative of Second Harvest by possessing awareness and understanding of issues related to hunger and homelessness in Toronto.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Your Impact:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Safely operate Second Harvest <strong>tractor‑trailers</strong> and straight box trucks to complete scheduled food pickups and deliveries, in compliance with all applicable traffic laws, safety standards, and organizational policies.</li> <li>Couple and secure tractor‑trailers, including backing under the trailer, locking the fifth wheel to the kingpin, connecting air brake and electrical lines, raising landing gear, performing a tug test, and completing a post‑coupling inspection.</li> <li>Perform complete circle checks and inspection logs of the assigned vehicle (tractor‑trailer or straight truck) at the beginning of each shift and report any safety or maintenance concerns promptly.</li> <li>Deliver rescued food to member agencies in accordance with Health &amp; Safety, food safety, and transportation regulations.</li> <li>Load and unload assigned products into and out of the assigned vehicle for each shift, ensuring safe handling and secure placement of all items.</li> <li>Handle food in a safe and responsible manner, ensuring all food is stored and transported in compliance with food safety standards.</li> <li>Ensure food is stored appropriately (e.g., floor, freezer, cooler, or truck) and that vehicles are parked in designated and approved locations.</li> <li>Collaborate with Driver‑Ambassadors, Lead Driver‑Ambassador, and the Fleet Supervisor to ensure food is distributed adequately and equitably across all routes.</li> <li>Maintain accurate and timely records of all food pickups, deliveries, and related documentation.</li> <li>Provide a high level of customer service and professionalism when interacting with agencies, donors, and internal stakeholders.</li> <li>Perform other related duties as required or assigned to support fleet and warehouse operations.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Who You Are:</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Experienced Driver:</strong> You have a valid AZ driver’s license and a minimum of 3 years’ experience driving tractor trailers and 10 speed automatic trucks (must provide a clean driver’s abstract of minimum 3 years); you have proven ability to perform driver pick-up and delivery functions, and associated record-keeping.</li> <li><strong>GTA-Savvy:</strong> you have thorough knowledge of the GTA, particularly downtown Toronto, and have at least 3 years driving experience in the city.</li> <li><strong>Professional:</strong> you have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, as well as strong conflict resolution and negotiation abilities.</li> <li><strong>Communicator:</strong> you can communicate effectively verbally and in writing.</li> <li>Physically able to climb in and out of the truck, lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis throughout the day.</li> <li>Excellent time management skills.</li> <li>Experience in the social services sector would be an asset.</li> <li>Food Handling certificate would be an asset.</li> <li>Must be willing to undergo a background check.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>A Robust Compensation Package:</strong></p> <ul> <li>A competitive salary paired with a robust benefits package.</li> <li>Comprehensive group insurance (health, dental, life, AD&amp;D and Long-Term disability)</li> <li>Employer match contributions (3%) to a Defined Benefit Pension Plan and optional 4% to Group RSP.</li> <li>Access to parental leave top-up.</li> <li>4 weeks of annual vacation &amp; 1 additional day per year of service (max 30).</li> <li>10 paid sick days &amp; 3 personal days.</li> <li>Summer Bonus Days &amp; Winter holiday closure.</li> <li>Access to an Employee and Family Assistance Program.</li> <li>Professional growth in a role that makes a real difference.</li> <li>Flexible work hours and a commitment to work-life balance.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Apply For This Role:</strong></p> <p>Ready to lead at the forefront of food security and sustainability?
