Job Description

SCR Mining and Tunnelling is currently seeking experienced and safety-focused Shop Mechanics to join our Shop Maintenance team in Val Caron, Ontario. Successful candidates will work within a fast-paced mining and construction environment and assist in maintaining equipment reliability, safety, and operational readiness in the shop environment.
There are multiple existing vacancies for this position.
Job Type
This is a full-time role, consisting of a 40 – 44 hours per week.

These positions are for employment within the main shop based in Val Caron, ON
Job Duties and Responsibilities
As a Shop Mechanic, your duties will include:
- Promoting a positive, professional, and team-oriented work environment
- Using all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices properly
- Reporting unsafe acts, conditions, incidents, or equipment concerns immediately
- Participating in ongoing training and development opportunities
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Following company procedures, manufacturer recommendations, and maintenance standards
- Diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and diesel-related issues
- Assisting with troubleshooting equipment breakdowns in shop and field settings
- Performing preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on company vehicles and equipment
- Repairing or replacing defective parts, components, and systems
- Conducting routine servicing including lubrication, fluid changes, inspections, and adjustments
- Completing work orders, inspection forms, and maintenance documentation accurately
- Operating tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment safely and efficiently
- Supporting senior mechanics, supervisors, and apprentices as required
- Assisting with inventory organization, parts handling, and shop housekeeping
Qualifications
The following qualifications are considered assets but are not mandatory for all applicants:
- Heavy Duty Equipment Technician Certification (421A)
- Truck & Coach Technician Certification (310T)
- Automotive Service Technician Certification (310S)
- Registered Apprentice level 3 in a recognized mechanical trade
- Experience working with mining, construction, fleet, or heavy equipment
- Experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and diagnostics
- Valid driver’s license required
Equivalent mechanical experience and transferable skills will also be considered.
Please note that candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. Employer sponsorship or work permit support is not available for this role.
Compensation
The compensation range for the position is competitive and based on experience. Hourly base wages are between $34.00 and 43.00 per hour.
