Job Description

Job Title: Material Control & Inventory Manager (Project Site)

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized, hands-on Material Control & Inventory Manager to oversee day-to-day site logistics for a large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure project.

In this role, you will be the primary lead for the site laydown yard, coordinating complex material deliveries and maintaining 100% inventory visibility. Your mission is to ensure the yard remains space-efficient and perfectly synchronized with the construction sequence—minimizing footprint while ensuring zero delays in material availability for field installation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Site & Yard Management

  • Establish and maintain a high-functioning site laydown yard to support lean material flow.
  • Define and manage clearly labeled zones for immediate-use, near-term, and buffer storage.
  • Prevent "yard sprawl" through continuous organization, ensuring ease of access and minimal rehandling of materials.

2. Just-in-Time (JIT) Delivery Coordination

  • Align all material deliveries with the 2–6 week project lookahead schedule.
  • Serve as the gatekeeper for delivery timing to ensure materials arrive only when needed and when space allows.
  • Partner with vendors and procurement to enforce site-specific delivery requirements (labeling, sequencing, and packaging).

3. Receiving & Material Control

  • Oversee all inbound activities, including physical verification against documentation and damage inspections.
  • Ensure all materials are logged, labeled, and staged in designated locations immediately upon receipt.

4. Inventory Precision

  • Maintain a real-time, accurate inventory of all on-site materials (Received, Stored, Issued).
  • Conduct regular cycle counts and reconciliations to maintain a high standard of data integrity.
  • Ensure every material movement is recorded and traceable.

5. Field Support & Issuance

  • Coordinate the controlled release of materials to field crews, ensuring they have exactly what they need for the day's work.
  • Minimize "uncontrolled staging" by preventing excess materials from being released to the field prematurely.

6. Protection & Safeguarding

  • Implement best practices for material protection against damage, theft, and environmental exposure.
  • Manage secure storage for high-value or sensitive equipment.

Success Measures

  • Operational Excellence: The laydown yard remains organized, controlled, and professional at all times.
  • Schedule Alignment: Deliveries consistently match project milestones and site capacity.
  • Data Accuracy: Maintain inventory accuracy levels of ≥98%.
  • Efficiency: Zero installation delays due to material shortages; minimal-to-no material rehandling.

The Ideal Candidate

This is a field-based, hands-on role. We are looking for a professional who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and is equally comfortable running a yard as they are maintaining disciplined inventory records. You must be a strong communicator capable of enforcing site standards with vendors and subcontractors alike.
