SAIC is seeking a Satellite and Ground Operations Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support the NRO Electro-Optical System Program Office (ESPO). Qualified candidates must possess demonstrated satellite and ground operations experience across a variety of satellite programs. The candidate must be able to work both independently and in a collaborative team‑based environment.
Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide real‑time flight and ground operations support for satellite systems, including monitoring, commanding, and troubleshooting.
- Perform anomaly resolution activities, including problem identification, analysis, and implementation of corrective actions. Document anomalies and solutions in a comprehensive manner.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure continuous improvement and reliability of satellite and ground systems.
- Conduct system performance assessments and generate reports for both routine operations and anomaly events.
- Assist in the coordination of satellite mission planning and execution.
- Utilize telemetry data to perform trending and analysis to predict and prevent potential issues.
- Adapt to and manage changing customer priorities in a fast‑paced and dynamic environment.
- Interface with multiple contractors to coordinate efforts, resolve issues, and ensure the successful execution of operations.
- Although "shift‑work" is not required, this position may require occasional non‑standard work hours to support anomaly events/mission needs.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field and nine (9) years or more experience; Masters and seven (7) years or more experience; PhD or JD and four (4) years or more experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in satellite operations or engineering, including hands‑on experience with satellite command and control systems.
- Proficient understanding of satellite ground systems, telemetry, tracking, and command (TT&C) operations.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to convey complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with mission planning.
- Understanding of orbital mechanics and applications.
- Familiarity with satellite subsystems such as power, thermal, and communications.
- Familiarity with electro‑optical imaging sensor systems.
- Knowledge of industry‑standard tools and software used in satellite operations and anomaly resolution.
- Experience working in a high‑tempo mission operations center or mission control environment.
