Job Summary
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Bookkeeper is responsible for managing day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting activities for assigned clients. Ensuring compliance with laws, rules, and regulations by planning and completing tax filings and bookkeeping services. This role requires strong technical bookkeeping knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while supporting team members. The Senior Bookkeeper ensures accurate financial records, timely filings, and high-quality client service.
Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date books for assigned clients.
- Record daily, weekly, and monthly transactions in accounting software.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and adjustments.
- Review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules, loan schedules, and other supporting schedules.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare financial statements and management reports.
- Process payroll for clients, where applicable.
- Assist with ROEs, T4s, T4As, WSIB, EHT, and other payroll-related filings.
- Prepare and file GST/HST, PST, QST, WSIB, EHT, and other statutory filings as required.
- Communicate with clients to request information, clarify transactions, and resolve issues.
- Respond to client bookkeeping and accounting questions in a professional manner.
- Work with accounting platforms such as QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, Xero, Dext, SAP, or similar tools.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of bookkeeping or full-cycle accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of Canadian bookkeeping, payroll, and sales tax compliance.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop required.
- Experience with cloud-based accounting tools considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations, payroll, GST/HST, and month-end procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple clients and competing deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Diploma or certificate in accounting/bookkeeping considered an asset.
Nice to Have
- Experience in a public accounting, bookkeeping, or outsourced accounting environment.
- Experience working with multiple clients across different industries.
- Familiarity with Dext, Hubdoc, Wagepoint, Plooto, Karbon, TaxCycle, Caseware, or similar software.
- Knowledge of Ontario WSIB and EHT filings.
- Experience with multi-currency bookkeeping.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 20 per week
