Staff Software Engineer - Payments

You will be responsible for leading the Architecture and Development of the core tax remittance product at Rippling, ensuring the movement of $30B+ across 40+ countries and 5000+ tax agencies with reliability and correctness as top priorities. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Designing and evolving the core tax remittance product
• Architecting and building end-to-end pipelines for tax payments
• Developing and optimizing distributed systems for high-throughput, multi-currency tax remittances
• Setting high standards for reliability, observability, security, and regulatory/audit readiness
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams and external partners
• Providing technical leadership and mentorship to engineers across the organization

To be successful in this role, you should have:

• 9+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
• Strong proficiency in backend development, distributed systems, and large-scale data pipelines
• Hands-on experience with data processing frameworks
• Deep knowledge of building and scaling real-time, high-throughput systems
• Experience in developing consumer-grade applications with a focus on user experiences
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences
