Their advanced engineering division, based in Metro Vancouver, specializes in designing and developing heavy-duty battery-powered electric drive systems and supporting infrastructure. The team is dedicated to creating proprietary EV components at the PCB level and delivering complete turn-key systems, including battery packs, vehicle structures, a world-leading dyno, and proprietary firmware and control systems for drive motors, chargers, controllers, DC/DC converters, and battery management systems.
Job Description
Our client is seeking a Systems Engineer to join their Advanced Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on cross-functional collaboration and has a strong interest in requirement-driven design. You'll work on defining and developing next-generation electric mining equipment and will be instrumental in aligning system architecture with stakeholder needs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering robust and scalable electrification systems.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop, review, and maintain system requirements and design documentation using tools such as Polarion
- Conduct requirement assessments with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
- Collaborate with compliance specialists to ensure systems meet applicable industry standards and regulations
- Support the development of system architecture for high-voltage battery-electric equipment
- Configure workflows and templates to improve productivity and ensure project compliance
- Act as the bridge between engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive system integration
- Interface with product design teams to ensure compatibility, safety, and reliability of interconnected systems
- Interpret and work from schematics, functional block diagrams, and mechanical/electrical system drawings
Skills and Qualifications:
Must-have:
- Engineering degree or diploma in Electrical, Mechatronics, or Systems Engineering (or a related field)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant industry experience
- Experience with requirements management tools such as Polarion, DOORS, or Jama
- Basic understanding of vehicle electronics: controllers, sensors, relays, circuit protection, etc.
- Familiarity with power electronics: inverters, motors, converters, and contactors
- Understanding of vehicle wiring including low-voltage and high-voltage cabling, harnesses, and distribution units
- Exposure to control logic and embedded software design
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and safety regulations
Nice-to-have:
- Experience working on electric vehicles or high-capacity battery systems
- Experience in the mining, heavy-duty vehicle, or industrial equipment sectors
- Experience interpreting or designing hydraulic and cooling schematics
- CANbus or similar communication protocol knowledge
- Experience with Teamcenter and or Polarion
